Officials to discuss safety initiatives for University District

The Ohio State University and the City of Columbus will announce new efforts to significantly enhance security in the University District. The announcement will take place at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (10/7) on the triangle-shaped lawn at the intersection of 17th, Waldeck and Iuka avenues.

Speakers will include Ohio State President Karen A. Holbrook, Mayor Michael B. Coleman and Aftab Pureval, president of Undergraduate Student Government.

Following the announcement, the speakers will walk across the street to the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house at 1943 E. Waldeck Ave. for a conversation with students and area residents about neighborhood safety. Coffee and donuts will be served. Media also are invited to attend the conversation with students.
