Ohio State alumna Tori Boggs soars as world jump rope champion

Since graduating from The Ohio State University in 2017, Tori Boggs has established a career as a world jump rope champion, entrepreneur and philanthropist.

Boggs said her time at Ohio State prepared her for her record-breaking career. When she’s not competing around the world, she donates her time and talents to charities such as Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The industrial design and biology graduate was on the Oval in April to promote the foundation’s Star Jump Challenge to raise funds for hospitalized children.

The Parkersburg, West Virginia, native began jumping rope at age 5. She went on to become the 31-time Grand World Jump Rope champion across all age divisions.

“I recently set a Guinness World Record for the most double under-(leg)-to-hand foot skips in 30 seconds,” she said. “It was really difficult, and it was really fun. I got to go to Milan and do it on a TV show.”

Boggs has also appeared on the television shows “America’s Got Talent,” “Britain’s Got Talent” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” She was featured in “Jump!,” a 2007 documentary about the sport.

“I like to think my experience at Ohio State has really amplified all of these amazing opportunities that I’ve gotten to do that haven’t been the normal life pathway that a lot of students might take,” she said. “These skills have been so helpful for all of these new avenues that I’ve gotten to go down and explore.”

As a student, Boggs started Ohio State’s jump rope team and now owns her own jump rope company.

“You meet so many people when you’re in college and you have so many experiences that it just opens your world to new things and to what’s possible,” she said. “You carry that same attitude, that same mentality into whatever else you do in life.”
