Ohio State University Back-To-School Fact Sheet

Autumn quarter 1999 classes begin Wednesday, Sept. 22. Though official enrollment figures will not be available until mid-October, between 5,900 and 5,950 new freshmen are expected to arrive this fall.

The Freshman Class:

  • is the brightest freshman class in Ohio State’s history, based on a variety of measures.
  • has an average ACT score of at least 24.6. -- has a higher percentage of students ranked in the top 25 percent and 10 percent of their high school classes than in 1998.
  • includes as many as 112 National Merit Scholars, about 220 high school valedictorians and at least 700 University Scholars.

Tuition

An undergraduate student from Ohio will pay $4,110 in tuition and fees this academic year.

Welcome Week

  • Thousands of students and their families take over campus on Move-in Day, Sept. 19.
  • Registration for Community Commitment 1999 starts at 9 a.m. Monday (9/20) at Mirror Lake Hollow. More than 1,500 Ohio State and Columbus community members are expected to participate.
  • The President’s Convocation is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (9/21) at St. John Arena and ends with the President’s Picnic/Buckeye Bash on the Oval from noon to 2:30 p.m.

Honors & Scholars

  • Programming expansions are afoot for students served by the University Honors & Scholars Center; this autumn marks the introduction of the Mount Leadership Society.

Construction

  • The $8.6 million Younkin Success Center, 1640 Neil Ave., is currently under construction and expected to be occupied by spring quarter.
  • The Fisher College of Business will dedicate three new buildings on Oct. 21.
  • The recently completed Tuttle Park Place Garage provides approximately 1,000 parking spaces.
  • The Longaberger Alumni House, located on Olentangy River Road, will be ready for use in late fall.
