Ohio State confirms calendar for winter and summer '08

The Ohio State University will begin spring break a week earlier than usual next year, and will shorten summer quarter by a week, in order to solve some unique calendar challenges for 2008.

The university calendar, which had tentatively called for traditional 10-week academic quarters, has been approved with a slightly abbreviated winter quarter and a nine-week summer quarter.
Some local school districts base their spring breaks on the Ohio State calendar, and so the change may affect those calendars.

Winter quarter 2008 will begin on Thursday, Jan. 3 and end on Friday, March 7. Commencement will be held on Sunday, March 16. Spring break will be March 13-23, and spring quarter classes begin March 24.

Summer quarter will begin June 16 and end on August 21, with commencement on August 24.

If regular calendar guidelines were followed, winter quarter commencement would have fallen on Easter Sunday, and summer quarter would have been only eight weeks long with commencement on Labor Day weekend.
