Ohio State details plans for 2020 graduate celebration, summer 2021 commencement
Thanks to vaccinations, ceremonies to be held without most COVID-19 health and safety requirements

Upcoming ceremonies will be the first near-normal celebrations of student achievements at The Ohio State University since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
The university will hold two ceremonies on the weekend of August 7 — a celebration for Ohio State’s spring, summer and autumn 2020 graduates on Saturday, Aug. 7, and commencement for summer 2021 graduates on Sunday, Aug. 8.
Graduates and their friends and families will be able to enjoy the celebration of 2020 graduates and the summer 2021 commencement with limited health and safety protocols. People vaccinated against COVID-19 are not required to wear masks; however, consistent with university requirements, unvaccinated people must wear masks at all times, including while on campus.
Class of 2020 celebration
The 2020 Graduate Celebration will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, at Ohio Stadium. Tickets are not required though graduates are asked to RSVP. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.
The event marks a celebration of these recent graduates’ accomplishments in the face of the pandemic’s challenges. Graduates can wear their favorite Buckeye attire.
Ohio State previously honored the Class of 2020 in virtual ceremonies in May, August and December 2020, with the promise of holding an in-person celebration when it was safe to do so. That time – because of increased access to vaccines and reduced COVID-19 rates – is now.

Summer 2021 commencement
New graduates will celebrate their accomplishments at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8. The university will resume holding summer commencement in its traditional location, the Schottenstein Center. Tickets are not required.
All graduates must wear proper academic regalia to participate in the commencement ceremony. Caps and gowns may be purchased from The Ohio State University Bookstore and other campus area bookstores.
