Ohio State Diversity Lecture Series continues

COLUMBUS – The winter quarter session of the President and Provost’s 2002-03 Diversity Lecture Series at The Ohio State University will begin 9 a.m. Tuesday (1/14) at The Ohio Union Conference Theatre, 1739 N. High St., with the guest appearance of Patti Wilson Byars, author of “Separate Fountains”, a novel exploring bigotry.
Byars, an adjunct instructor of education at Florida State University, is one of five lecturers scheduled to visit Ohio State throughout the quarter. Her lecture, “Separate Fountains: From Memoirs to Published Story”, will include details of her life growing up in a segregated community in Jonesboro, Ga.
Registration begins 30 minutes before each event. All lectures are free and open to the public, however seating is limited.

Dr. Mervyn Warren, author who has compiled nearly three decades of research on the life, preaching and influence of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

·10 a.m., Feb. 5, The Ohio Union, Conference Theatre.
Alfredo De Los Santos, research professor, University of Arizona, and adviser to the
National Science Foundation Directorate on Education and Human Rights.
Lecture - “Demography, Diversity and Dollars”
·2 p.m., Feb. 13, Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center, 153 W. 12th Ave.
Frederick Douglass IV, the great-great-grandson of famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
Lecture - “The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass”
·10 a.m., Feb. 19, The Ohio Union, Conference Theatre.
Terrance Roberts, psychologist and social worker who helped integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Ark., in 1957.
Lecture - “The Little Rock Nine”
The lecture series, in its third year, is coordinated by Frank W. Hale Jr., vice provost emeritus for the Ohio State Office of Minority Affairs, in an effort to present and generate dialogue on issues ranging from civil rights to multiculturalism.
