Ohio State facilitates agreement between companies

Imagine a TV screen that you could roll up like a yoga mat and carry over your shoulder. That’s just one possibility for the light-emitting plastics technology developed at The Ohio State University.

Ohio State President Karen A. Holbrook will be on hand when officials from BTG International Inc. and Taiwan’s Union Chemical Laboratories of the Industrial Technology Research Institute sign an agreement to jointly develop and commercialize the patented light-emitting plastics technology. The event is set from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday (8/13) in suite 104 of Ohio State’s MicroMD Laboratory, 1381 Kinnear Road.

Arthur J. Epstein, distinguished university professor of physics and chemistry who developed the technology with his research team, also will be there to show reporters his invention. He and his team designed a unique kind of plastic device that could form flexible video screens for computers, billboards, in-car dashboard displays, and a host of portable electronics. With plastic screens, these electronics could be made thinner, lighter, and more durable, as well as more affordable.
