Ohio State faculty can discuss proposed constitutional amendment

Faculty experts in the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University can discuss President Bush’s decision on Tuesday (2/24) to ask Congress to approve a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages.

• Ruth Colker, the Heck Faust Memorial Chair in Constitutional Law, believes that a constitutional amendment isn’t going to be an effective way to stop same-sex marriage. She can discuss how an amendment would be affected by lawfully occurring marriages in Denmark, Canada and potentially in Massachusetts.

• David Goldberger, the Isadore and Ida Topper Professor of Law and director of Clinical Programs, can discuss the provisions of a constitutional amendment and the process it would take.

• Marc Spindelman, assistant professor of law, is an expert on sex equality theory. He can discuss how far a law should go in imposing the traditional notion of family. He also can discuss how he believes an amendment would threaten states’ rights.
