Ohio State graduate program rankings issued by U.S. News & World Report - 04/15/10

COLUMBUS – According to the U.S. News & World Report 2011 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools released today, The Ohio State University offers a vast array of graduate programs, with eleven ranked in the top ten.

Top ten programs include part-time MBA program (business), supply chain/logistics (business), dispute resolution (law), legal writing (law), paleontology, administration/supervision (education), counseling/personnel services (education), curriculum/instruction (education), elementary education, secondary education, vocational/ technical education.

“These graduate-program rankings confirm the University’s excellence across a broad range of academic endeavors, from K-12 teacher education to law, business, and so many other fields,” said E. Gordon Gee, president of The Ohio State University. “Equally important, however, is what numerical rankings cannot measure: Ohio State’s profound commitment to expanding educational opportunity and improving our communities.”

The Fisher College of Business demonstrated the most marked improvement in university graduate programs ranked this year, rising to number 21 (and 6th among public universities) from 26th place last year and 30th previously. In a new ranking of part-time MBA programs, Fisher was ranked 10th among 314 schools offering the program. Fisher’s program in logistics continues to rate among the nation’s top ten.

Ohio’s K-12 schools benefit from the resources offered by the College of Education and Human Ecology, whose ranking improved to 14th nationally (and 7th among public universities). The specialty program of vocational education is again rated 1st in the nation, with programs in elementary education, secondary education, administration, counseling and personnel services, and curriculum and instruction all in the top 10.

The publication’s rankings for the Moritz College of Law also improved to number 34 overall, (and 15th among publics), up from 35th last year. The program in dispute resolution, which has consistently been among the best in the nation, maintained a 5th place ranking; and the legal writing program joined the top ten list for the first time ever.

Ohio State’s College of Medicine maintained the improved rankings among the nation’s top medical schools at 27th among all institutions (and 11th among publics). The college’s program in primary care ranked 39th overall.

The College of Engineering increased to 25th in the nation (14th among publics), up from 27th last year.

Each year, U.S. News ranks professional-school programs in business, education, engineering, law, and medicine. This year, in addition to those annual rankings, the magazine offers new rankings for Ph.D. programs in biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, paleontology, physics and statistics.

U.S. News & World Report 2010 rankings of Ohio State graduate programs:

*Fisher College of Business: ranked best in Ohio and 21st nationally among 433 institutions with MBA programs. Specialty programs in supply chain/logistics ranked eighth; production and operations ranked 10th; and part-time MBA program ranked 10th . Fisher is third nationally in the proportion of graduates employed at three months (90.3%).

*College of Education and Human Ecology: ranked best in Ohio and 14th nationally out of 279 graduate education programs. Specialty programs in vocational/technical education rank first in the nation; curriculum/instruction ranked 5th, elementary education ranked 6th, secondary teacher education, administration/supervision, and counseling/personnel services are 8th.

*College of Engineering: ranked best in Ohio and 25th nationally out of 198 engineering programs that grant doctoral degrees. The program in computer science ranked 28th.

*Moritz College of Law: ranked best in Ohio and 35th in the nation out of 188 ABA-accredited law schools. Specialty programs in dispute resolution ranked 5th, legal writing ranked 9th.

*College of Medicine: ranked 27th overall among 126 accredited medical schools. The specialty program in primary care ranked 39th.

*College of Arts and Sciences: ranked 9th nationally in paleontology, 23rd in physics, 26th in chemistry, 27th in statistics, 30th in mathematics and 46th in biological sciences
