Ohio State hosts mentoring orientation for African American male students

The Office of Minority Affairs African American Male Resource Center will host an inaugural orientation this weekend for African American male freshmen attending The Ohio State University this fall.

The three-day orientation, headquartered at the Frank W. Hale Black Cultural Center, 153 W. 12th Ave., will involve Ohio State faculty, staff, students and administrators, and community leaders. Mentoring workshops, panel discussions and social events also are planned to help students develop study skills and identify resources that will contribute to their academic success and personal growth. Autumn quarter classes begin on Wednesday (9/21).

Archie Griffin, president and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association, Inc., will speak to the freshman group at an OSU-San Diego State football tailgate party at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday (9/17) at the Hale Center.

Other events at the Hale Center include a reception with the Ohio State African American Alumni Society from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (9/16) and an Upperclassman Student Panel and Practical Skills Training Session from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday (9/17). A soul food luncheon will be held at noon on Sunday (9/18).
