Ohio State hosts panel discussion about war with Iraq

In an effort to educate the community on issues regarding the war in Iraq, The Ohio State University is hosting a panel discussion, titled “War in Iraq: Now and What’s Next,” from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday (4/1) in Drinko Hall, 55 W. 12th Ave. The event is sponsored by the university’s Mershon Center, which promotes the interdisciplinary study of international security and public policy, and the Moritz College of Law.

The panelists are:

• Richard Herrmann, professor of political science and Director of the Mershon Center, who will discuss politics and American foreign policy in the Middle East. He also will moderate the discussion;

• Mary Ellen O’Connell, William B. Saxbe Designated Professor in the Moritz College of Law in the Moritz College of Law and research fellow at the Mershon Center, who will discuss enforcement of international law, the United Nations, security issues and the use of force;

• Allan Millett, Raymond E. Mason Jr. Professor of Military History in Ohio State’s Mershon Center, who will offer perspective on U.S. military involvement in the Middle East;

• John Mueller, the Woody Hayes Chair of National Security Studies at the Mershon Center, who will discuss diplomatic and military implications of war with Iraq; and

• Todd Stewart, director of the Program for International and Homeland Security at the Mershon Center, who will discuss issues affecting Homeland Security as a result of the United States’ entering a war with Iraq.

Event participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel. The Moritz College of Law also will offer a live webcast of the event, accessible from http://moritzlaw.osu.edu/webcast.
