Ohio State News Alert: Free food and safety devices

Event promotes dialogue, relationship building and resource sharing

All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a First Friday Food Truck Event focused on community safety.

This event – part of a monthly series hosted by the Office of Student Life’s Willie J. Young Sr. Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement resource center – will be held Friday, October 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the corner of Norwich and Indianola avenues. It is an opportunity for dialogue, relationship building and resource sharing.

Food and beverages will be available at no cost. Students can also pick up free personal safety devices as well as safety devices for off-campus residences while engaging with members of the community and officers from the Ohio State University Police Division and Columbus Division of Police.

The personal safety devices are easy to carry and can clip onto a belt, backpack or your keys. When activated, the alarm sound is at least 100 decibels and can be heard up to 225 feet away. The safety devices for homes include window and door alarms to deter burglars from attempting to enter a residence. Complimentary light timers are also available.

These personal and home safety devices are also available for pick up at the Willie J. Young Sr. Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement office. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday inside the Ohio Union (room 3106).

For additional safety resources, please visit the Department of Public Safety website.
