Ohio State online degree programs recognized among best for veterans in U.S. News ranking

Columbus, Ohio – Three of Ohio State University’s online degree programs have been named among the nation’s best for veterans by U.S. News & World Report.

The publication ranks the university’s online programs in graduate nursing, two bachelors programs and graduate engineering in its “2015 Best Online Programs for Veterans” published May 19. These are programs that “offer online degrees that offer a range of benefits for veterans.”

Ohio State’s online graduate nursing program is ranked sixth, and two online bachelor’s programs (two are offered: nursing and dental hygiene) are ranked seventh. The online graduate engineering program (one is offered: master’s in welding engineering) is ranked 16th.

The rankings are based on factors such as program reputation, graduation rates and academic and career support services, and also the financial benefits available specifically to people with military experience.

The university currently offers 10 online degree programs and is committed to the continued growth of these offerings. Degrees available include: the registered nurse to bachelor of science in nursing, master of science in nursing, master of science in welding engineering, master of science in dental hygiene, master of science in agricultural and extension education, master of global engineering leadership, master of applied clinical and preclinical research, master of plant health management, doctor of nursing practice and the dental hygiene baccalaureate degree completion program.

Mike Carrell, assistant provost and director of Ohio State’s Office of Military and Veterans Services, says the ranking is great news for veterans.

“Our goal is to help veterans transition to college life. Offering highly ranked online degree programs is one way we can help them be successful academically. This is especially relevant given the state’s efforts around offering academic credit for military experience and medical certifications,” said Carrell.

For the online graduate nursing program, the publication ranked Ohio State in a tie for sixth out of 87 programs. For the bachelor’s programs, Ohio State tied for seventh out of 183 programs. For the online graduate engineering program, Ohio State ranked 16th out of 48 universities.
