Ohio State students to take part in Make a Difference Day - 10/25/02

Students from The Ohio State University will volunteer Saturday (10/26) to work at a retirement center and to clean up local communities as a part of the national Make a Difference Day. Project Community and Community Connection are among the sponsors of the events.

Ohio State students will join Ohio First Lady Hope Taft and others at 9:30 a.m. at Sunrise Assisted Living, 3500 Riverside Drive. The students will help build a fence and take part in a pep rally with the residents. Another group of students will volunteer to clean up High Street, north of campus in the Clintonville area.

At least 40 students will join community organizations at 9:45 a.m. to clean up Weinland Park streets, to plant spring flowers and to paint the mural at the corner of 11th and Grant avenues of Weinland Park landmarks. Registration for volunteers will begin at 9 a.m. at the Godman Guild Association, 303 E. 6th Ave.

Project Community, which is the Ohio Union’s community service program, offers service opportunities and provides large-scale service projects for the Ohio State community. Community Connection recruits, trains and places students as volunteers in the local neighborhood communities.

WHAT: Ohio State students will join Ohio First Lade Hope Taft to volunteer at Sunrise Assisted Living. Other groups of students will clean up High Street and volunteer in the Weinland Park area.

WHEN: Sunrise Assisted Living and High Street clean-up: 9:30 a.m. Saturday (10/26).
Weinland Park clean-up: 9:45 a.m. Saturday (10/26).

WHERE: Sunrise Assisted Living: 3500 Riverside Drive.
High Street clean-up: north of campus in the Clintonville area.
Weinland Park clean-up: in the area north of 5th Avenue, west of High Street, east of the railroad tracks and south of 18th Avenue.

WHY: To take part in the national Make a Difference Day.
