Ohio State to break ground on new recreation, physical activity center

Ohio State will break ground on the state-of-the-art Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC) that will include the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion.

The ceremony will take place at 3:45 p.m. Monday (6/9) at a site adjacent to the Women's Fieldhouse, near Lincoln Tower on Cannon Road. The entire event is from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Speakers will include Karen A. Holbrook, president of Ohio State; William H. Hall, vice president for Student Affairs; W. Michael Sherman, chair of the Physical and Activity Education Services; Andy Geiger, Director of Athletics; Cricket Nardacci, student representative to RPAC Project; and J. Michael Dunn, director of Recreational Sports and event emcee.

Displays at the event will feature schematic drawings of the new building. The project’s Phase I (scheduled for completion in early 2005) includes the 277,820 square-foot-main recreation building, the 95,390 square-foot aquatics pavilion, and the 30,555 square-foot recreational and instruction pools building. The project’s second phase will include offices, classrooms and labs for the School of Physical Activity and Educational Services; 23,000 square feet of gymnasium space, eight indoor golf-hitting stations, and four squash courts and is scheduled for completion in late 2006.
