Ohio State to hold Convocation 2003 Monday

University President Karen A. Holbrook and select faculty, staff and students will extend an official welcome to Ohio State first-year students at Convocation 2003 at 10:30 a.m. on Monday (9/22) in St. John Arena, 410 Woody Hayes Drive.

Convocation will mark the beginning of college life for approximately 6,200 freshmen. Students will experience their first academic procession; be introduced to Ohio State history and traditions; learn the words to “Carmen Ohio,” the school’s alma mater; and stroll through Ohio Stadium with the Ohio State Marching Band, en route to the Oval.

For the ninth consecutive year, the academic preparedness of Ohio State freshmen has improved. The average ACT score for the incoming class ranges between a school record 25.3-25.4 and well above the 2003 national average of 20.8. The ACT average at Ohio State was 25.2 for the past two years.
Additionally, Buckeye Welcome, a special university reception for new transfer and Regional campus change students, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday (9/22) at Weigel Hall, 1866 College Rd.

Classes will begin Wednesday (9/24) for approximately 37,000 undergraduates.
