Ohio State to host authors of 'Freakonomics'

Economist Steven D. Levitt and journalist Stephen J. Dubner, the bestselling authors of “Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything,” will discuss their book with Ohio State students, faculty and staff at 4 p.m. today (11/14) in the west ballroom of the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St. The event also is free and open to the public but seating is limited.

The Distinguished Speaker Series event was launched in 2003 by The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and First Year Experience (UAFYE) to engage first-year students in discussions of national or international importance with prominent individuals.

Levitt is the Alvin J. Baum Professor in Economics at The University of Chicago, where he studies a wide range of topics, including the economic aspects of crime, corruption, sports, and education. In 2003, he received the John Bates Clark medal of the American Economic Association as the most outstanding American economist under the age of 40.

Dubner is the author of the bestseller “Turbulent Souls: A Catholic Son's Return to His Jewish Family” and is a regular contributor to The New York Times Magazine where he also was a writer and editor from 1994-1999. He also has written for The New Yorker, Time and The Washington Post.

Free tickets are available in Room 120 of Enarson Hall, 154 W. 12th Ave., and are required for admission.
