Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center to open satellite facility in Dublin
The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine is announcing plans to open The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) in Dublin. The new facility, which will be a 24-hour companion animal emergency and referral/specialty hospital, is projected to open in spring 2013. The 10,000-square-foot facility will be located at 5020 Bradenton Ave. in Dublin.
Similar to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center model, the Dublin clinic will be a satellite facility of Ohio State's campus VMC and an extension of its Hospital for Companion Animals. It will offer expanded learning opportunities for veterinary medical residents and students while providing increased accessibility for clients and their pets.
"This move is mission-oriented and critical to achieving the strategic goals for the college," said Dr. Lonnie King, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. "We must make bold changes and continually search for innovative ways to sustain veterinary medical education."
Dr. Rustin Moore, chair of the department of veterinary clinical sciences and associate dean for clinical and outreach programs, says the new facility will benefit both pet owners and area veterinarians.
"This clinic will provide emergency care as well as general and orthopedic surgery, internal medicine and other specialty services, and allow us to expand opportunities for new discoveries through clinical trials. It also will allow us to provide leading edge care for a greater number of clients and their pets," said Moore, "something that our clients and private practitioner colleagues have requested."
The land purchase, rezoning, and renovation of the facility - and once it is operational - the practice, will be managed by Veterinary Specialty Management Services, an Ohio firm with expertise in privately owned emergency and specialty practices.
Ohio State's VMC is among the largest facilities of its kind in the world, with more than 35,000 animal visits each year. With its three hospitals, it is the only comprehensive referral veterinary medical center in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. The VMC provides care in over 20 specialty areas such as orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, critical care medicine, cardiology, dermatology, internal medicine, neurology, oncology and ophthalmology.
