Ohio State’s minority student enrollment continues to increase

Columbus campus enrollment remains steady

Since the start of 2022, minority student enrollment has increased on all campuses at The Ohio State University.

The new numbers are part of the Spring Semester Enrollment Report released Friday. The report includes key data about Ohio State’s undergraduate, graduate and professional students on the Columbus and regional campuses.

According to the report, total enrollment at the Columbus campus is 58,725 in 2022 – no change from spring 2021. Total undergraduate enrollment at the Columbus campus is 44,494. That’s down just 0.2% from last spring.

Total minority student enrollment at all campuses and all levels increased by 4.3% to 16,119.

“Educating students is at the heart of our land-grant mission and it is particularly gratifying to see so many of them continue to choose to become part of our Buckeye family. Our spring enrollment report underscores the ongoing recognition of the incredible value and importance of an Ohio State degree, which helps set graduates on a path to professional and personal success,” said President Kristina M. Johnson. “I am encouraged to see enrollment among students of color continue to increase and a record number of women enrollees at the graduate and professional levels. Improving diversity and addressing social, racial and gender inequities are among my top priorities as president, and I look forward to hearing from our incoming students about how we can further advance our efforts in these critical areas.”

The gains were seen across student populations:

  • Total Hispanic/Latino student enrollment at all campuses and all levels increased to 3,488, up 3.1% from 2021.
  • Total Asian student enrollment at all campuses and all levels is 5,002, a 6% increase.
  • Total African American student enrollment at all campuses and all levels is 4,870 – an increase of 3.7%.
  • Total female enrollment at the professional level increased to a record high 2,011 and at the graduate level increased to a record high 6,293.

Ohioans continue to account for the majority of the undergraduate student body. Students from the state’s 88 counties make up 38,939 members of the undergraduate population on all campuses.

Total university enrollment is 63,962.
