P & G to announce gift to support early childhood school

College of Human Ecology Dean David Andrews and Columbus Public Schools Superintendent Gene Harris will tour the future site of Ohio State’s Weinland Park Early Childhood Development Center, which will be the first university-based early childhood laboratory/school built in a low-income neighborhood, at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Friday (10/22). Prior to the tour, President Karen A. Holbrook and other university officials will be on hand when Carol Talbot, vice president and trustee of the P&G Fund, the foundation of Procter and Gamble, will announce a gift to the Center.

The announcement will take place at 9:45 a.m. on Friday (10/22) in Campbell Hall, 1787 Neil Ave. Following the announcement, the guests will travel to the future site of the development center, which will be located at 211 E. 17th Ave. near the Weinland Park Elementary School.

The center will offer services for enrolled children and their families, teacher training for students, and research opportunities for faculty and students.

The groundbreaking for the center is planned for 2005, with the opening planned for 2006.
