Parents Weekend Activities Oct. 13-15

PARENTS TO EXPLORE OHIO STATE DURING PARENTS' WEEKEND OCT. 13

COLUMBUS -- More than 1,800 parents and guardians of Ohio
State University students will participate in activities ranging
from campus tours to Sunday brunch with President E. Gordon Gee
during Parents' Weekend Oct. 13-15.

"We want to help parents understand what the university
is," said Bill Wahl, director of the Parent Association and
coordinator of Parents' Weekend. "Thhis is a time for them to
get to know the faculty and administrators and talk with other
parents."

Parents will take part in a number of activities throughout
the weekend designed to familiarize them with their children's
educational experiences on campus.

"As parents become more involved they will see that we are
all here to help their children," Wahl said.

Parents, students and an expected 350 siblings can learn
about Ohio State's history, Greek homes, athletic facilities and
academic service units on various walking tours Saturday (10/14)
at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Also at 11 a.m., parents can converse with
staff and faculty in the Ohio Union Buckeye Suites on the
academic components of the university.

A scarlet and gray tailgate party will be held at noon at
the French Field House, complete with Brutus Buckeye and members
of the Ohio State band. Following the tailgate party, a cookout
will be held at 5:30 p.m. Beginning at 7 p.m., parents can swing
to the big band sounds of the Jim Franck Band and dance to the
rhythm of Mothers Other at a sock hop in the French Field House.
Parents can end the evening with a preview of the Ohio State
basketball team during a scarlet and gray scrimmage at Midnight
Madness in St. John Arena.

Sunday (10/15) at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., parents can enjoy a
buffet style brunch with Gee in the Ohio Union Ballrooms. Gee
will present the 1995 Parent of the Year Award and update them on
current happenings at Ohio State.
