Parker, Gencur Promoted at Ohio Unions

REBECCA PARKER NAMED DIRECTOR OF OHIO UNIONS;
FRANK GENCUR TO BE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

     COLUMBUS -- Rebecca L. Parker, associate director of the
Office of Residence and Dining Halls, will become director of the
Ohio Unions at The Ohio State University, effective Dec. 1.

     The position has been vacant since the departure of David
Mucci in 1993.

     Franklin J.Gencur, director of the Faculty Club, will become
associate director of the unions, a position he has held on an
acting basis since May 1993.

     The Ohio Unions include the Ohio Union on High Street and
the Drake Union next to the Olentangy River.  They are centers
for co-curricular student activities, and their services include
educational, recreational, social and cultural programming,
facilitating student leadership, and operating the Creative Arts
Program, as well as providing food service, meeting and office
spaces for student groups, and conference facilities.

     The Ohio Unions employ about 100 full-time staff members and
approximately 325 student employees and have an annual budget of
some $2 million.

     "The Ohio Unions are blessed to have a very talented and
dedicated group of staff and student leaders," Parker said.  "I
am honored to work with them.  Together, we will take the Ohio
Unions to even greater heights."

     In announcing the appointments, William Hall, assistant vice
president for student affairs, noted that both Parker and Gencur
have outstanding records of performance in their previous
positions at Ohio State.  "Ms. Parker is eager to accept this new
challenge, and I am confident the Ohio Unions will greatly
benefit from her leadership," Hall said.

     "Mr. Gencur's experience and knowledge will make him a
valuable asset in the future of the Ohio Unions," he added.

     Parker has 16 years of progressively more responsible
experience in the Office of Residence and Dining Halls. Most
recently she has served as the director of the residence life
department, where her responsibilities included managing a staff
of almost 450 professional and student employees serving more
than 7,000 students living in university residence halls.  Under
her leadership, the residence life program has gained national
recognition for its effectiveness and innovation.

     A WORTHINGTON resident, Parker, 38, received her bachelor's
degree from Capital University, a master's degree in student
personnel administration from Ohio State, and is completing work
on a Ph.D. in higher education student affairs at Ohio State.

     She is active in professional and community organizations
and currently chairs the Multicultural Affairs Committee of the
Association of College and University Housing Officers
International and is a member of the board of CHOICES for Victims
of Domestic Violence.

     Gencur held a variety of management and programming
positions in the Ohio Unions between 1982 and 1987, when he was
named director of the Faculty Club.  Since May 1993, he has
served in the dual capacity of director of the Faculty Club and
acting associate director of the Ohio Unions.

     A resident of COLUMBUS (43201), Gencur, 37, holds Bachelor
of Arts and Master of Public Administration degrees from Ohio
State.  He received the university's Distinguished Staff Award in
1993, and is the current president of the Association of Faculty
Clubs International.
