Perrone accepts Texas position

Ellyn Perrone, vice president for government relations since 2003, is leaving Ohio State for The University of Texas at Austin, where she has been named associate vice president for research. In her new position, which she will assume July 11, Perrone will represent the university in federal and congressional relations, and is tasked with raising its national visibility.

While at Ohio State, Perrone was responsible for coordinating and strengthening the university's relationships with federal, state and local government officials and entities. During her tenure, Ohio State was successful in mitigating cuts to its doctoral programs and non-resident graduate student funding in the 2003 budget process. She also was instrumental in advocacy efforts launched to sustain higher education funding in the current round of budget negotiations. Perrone is credited with restructuring the government relations office to create a program that has aligned personnel with the university's goals of increasing federal funding, promoting faculty expertise as a resource for the state and nation, and placing more faculty before congressional or state committees to testify. Under her leadership, government relations opened a new federal relations office in Washington, D.C. and enhanced its presence at the Statehouse.

Senior Vice President for External Relations Curt Steiner praised Perrone for her efforts, saying, "Ellyn formed a great team that allowed us to move forward with our government relationships on many levels. Her contributions will continue to make a difference at Ohio State."
