Preschoolers to help plant tree on Oval in Earth Day observance

Preschoolers from Ohio State\'s Childcare Center will help plant the last of 19 donated shade trees in a brief ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Friday (4/22) at the east end of the Oval.

Superintendent of Plant Materials Cathy Maupin will the teach preschoolers environmental issues and the 35th anniversary of Earth Day. The preschoolers will then help plant the trees donated by Wade and Gatton Nurseries of Bellville, Ohio. Columbus-based GreenScapes Landscape Co. donated the labor for the installation.

The trees are part of a $3 million restoration of the Oval, which includes new turf, walkways, an irrigation system and lighting. Construction began last June, and the fencing that is protecting the new grass is scheduled to be removed the week of June 6.
