Ohio State University President Kristina M. Johnson issued the following statement today (Jan. 7):
Yesterday, I joined fellow Americans in expressing my dismay at the events in our nation’s capital.
We are heartened that Congress was able to fulfill its duty in certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election despite yesterday’s unrest. This is a testament to the strength of our democracy. Now, as a nation, we must focus on the orderly transition of power. As an institution of higher learning, we recognize that education is a critical component to combating misinformation and intolerance.
We are more committed than ever to fulfilling our mission of creating and discovering knowledge to improve the well-being of our communities – both locally and globally – and educating the next generation of leaders who will proudly uphold and defend the values of our nation.
