President to Deliver "State of the University" Address

   President William E. Kirwan will present his first "State of the University" address to The Ohio State University Senate on Saturday (10/16) at 9 a.m. in 103 Kottman Hall, 2021 Coffey Road.

   It is a long-standing tradition that the university president deliver a speech outlining progress and plans for the coming academic year at the first autumn meeting of the University Senate. Last year, as Kirwan was newly arrived, he did not give a formal speech, so this will be his first such address.

   He is expected to review major recent accomplishments and outline the top concerns and challenges he sees facing the university, along with strategies for continuing and accelerating Ohio State's quest for achieving its goals in the four areas he outlined in his inaugural address in February: academic excellence, undergraduate education, diversity and outreach.

   The speech will be broadcast by WOSU-TV at 7 p.m. on Monday (10/18). Internet users may listen to the speech live at www.osu.edu, which also will offer links to an archived audio version immediately following the speech Saturday and a text version by 11 a.m.

   President Kirwan will be available for media interviews immediately following the speech. A mult box will be provided during the speech.

   Parking is available on the streets and in nearby lots for vehicles displaying the orange OSU News Personnel pass. Kottman Hall is located between Fyffe and Coffey roads just south of Woody Hayes Drive and accessible from either Fyffe or Coffey.
