Professor will Lecture on and Demonstrate Jazz

PROFESSOR WILL LECTURE ON AND DEMONSTRATE JAZZ

     COLUMBUS -- An Ohio State University professor will offer a
lecture for the mind and a demonstration for the soul with a
special presentation on jazz.

     William T. McDaniel Jr., professor of music and Black
studies, will speak on jazz's contribution to world culture on
Thursday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Ohio State's Black Studies
Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. Vernon Ave.

     McDaniel, who directs the OSU Jazz Ensemble, will include a
jazz demonstration in his presentation, titled "Jazz: America's
Music from Folk to Art -- A World-Class Contribution."  He will
describe major innovators in jazz, including Charlie Parker, Duke
Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane and Columbus's own
Rahsaan Roland Kirk.

     The event is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will
be served following the lecture.

     The lecture is the second in a series of four which
commemorate the 25th anniversary of Ohio State's College of
