Publisher will speak at Ohio State University on Friday


Tad Smith, president of the Media Division for Reed Business Media, which is the nation’s largest publisher of media/entertainment/retailing magazines, will discuss “How Responsible Business Leaders Can Effectively Support the Critical Role of the Powerful News Organizations they Own” at 11 a.m. Friday (5/16) in 365 Gerlach Hall, 2108 Neil Ave.

In his talk, Smith will cite the “ignorance of many Americans to global events and then detail the case for the obligations these news organizations must make toward their various constituencies, including readers, viewers, advertisers, investors, employees and communities.”

At Reed Business Media, Smith oversees the publishing of business magazines, including “Variety,” “Publishers Weekly,” “Broadcasting & Cable,” “Library Journal” and “Video Business.”

Prior to working for Reed Business Media, Smith served as senior vice president of e-commerce for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. In addition to his Reed responsibilities, he is an adjunct associate professor at the Stern School of Business at New York University.
