Reese Medal Awarded

OHIO STATE HONORS THE LATE MEL SCHOTTENSTEIN

     COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University presented its Everett
D. Reese Medal posthumously to the late Melvin L. "Mel"
Schottenstein in honor of his lifelong support of the university.

     Schottenstein, a long-time civic leader in Columbus and
partner in the law firm of Schottenstein Zox and Dunn, died last
year.

     The award was accepted by his widow, Lenore Green
Schottenstein, and several family members at the university's
Presidents Club spring dinner on May 21.  The Presidents Club is
a recognition organization for major donors to Ohio State.

     The Reese Medal is the highest award given by the university
to recognize exceptional service in private philanthropy.

     "On countless occasions, both formal and informal, Mel was
one of Ohio State's great advocates," said E. Gordon Gee,
president of Ohio State, in presenting the award.  "His
enthusiasm was infectious, and his determination was
inspirational."

     Schottenstein earned his bachelor's degree in business in
1954 and his law degree in 1958, both from Ohio State.  He was a
member of the Board of Directors of The Ohio State University
Foundation, of the Law Centennial Campaign Committee, and of the
National Campaign Committee for the university's major fund-
raising effort that ran from 1985 to 1990.
