Scoreboard animations show Buckeye pride during football games

“Crazy Brutus,” “Racing Bobbleheads” and “Sloopy Time” are just a sample of the more than 350 animations projected on Ohio Stadium’s scoreboard during home football games.

Media can get a-behind-the-scenes look at the scoreboard animation process, interview a student and staff designer and see the final touches added to a new animation specifically created for the Ohio State vs. Michigan football game from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday (11/17) in the Value City Arena at The Jerome Schottenstein Center, 555 Borror Drive.

All of the animations are created, distributed and monitored from this central location in the Schottenstein Center.

Although most animations are designed on a computer, some are still hand-drawn. Creating animations by hand can take between 40 and 50 hours because multiple sketches are combined to create a complete cartoon.

Since 1988, the animation and scoreboard staff at Ohio State have won 21 awards for their animations.
