Thunderstorms, high winds possible for Columbus and regional campuses

A storm system is moving into the central Ohio area today and continuing through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, heavy rain is expected from Friday night into Saturday morning. Forecasts predict between one to two inches of rain with central Ohio, west central Ohio and parts of Indiana projected to get the most rain.

Localized flooding is the main concern, and rising streams will be closely monitored.

Severe thunderstorms are possible on Saturday evening into Sunday morning. The NWS predicts the primary threat is damaging winds.

Sunday afternoon - Gusty winds are expected. Gusts could exceed 40 mph.

Ohio State’s Office of Emergency Management left flood barriers in place behind Drake Union to reduce flooding concerns. They will continue to monitor the river throughout this weather event.
