Severe weather possible this afternoon and evening

National Weather Service warns of high winds and a possible tornado

A cold front pushing into the Buckeye State means severe weather could affect The Ohio State University campuses later today.

According to the Wilmington office of the National Weather Service, the forecast calls for a chance for stronger thunderstorms to develop later this afternoon, some of which could be severe. Counties across central Ohio, including those that are home to the Columbus and regional campuses, are under a slight risk of severe weather.

The weather service forecast reports straight-line winds are expected to be more of a concern, but the chance for an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The window of most concern would be between about 2 and 8 p.m.
