Six Honored by Engineering Society

SIX FROM COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING RECEIVE INTERNATIONAL HONORS
     COLUMBUS -- Six current or former members of The Ohio State
University College of Engineering have been named fellows by NACE
International.
     NACE International recognized 25 people from around the
world, including six with connection to Ohio State.  NACE is a
technical society dedicated to corrosion control and prevention.
It names as NACE Fellows members who have made significant
contributions to the advancement of corrosion control and
prevention.

     Among those recognized were:

     =FE Robert A. Rapp, professor, of 1379 Southport Drive,
COLUMBUS (43235).  Rapp was chosen for his research in high
temperature oxidation and defect chemistry of solid oxide
electrolytes and for his contribution to corrosion science
education.

     =FE Franklin H. Beck, professor emeritus, of 2191 Haverford
Road, UPPER ARLINGTON (43220).  Beck was honored for
contributions to the field of corrosion engineering education and
providing inspiration to the corrosion engineering community.

     =FE Tomomi Murata, an Ohio State alumnus.  Murata is director
and NCS Fellow of the Advanced Materials and Technology Research
Laboratory at Nippon Steel Corp., Tokyo, Japan.  He was selected
for contributions to the understanding and prevention of ferrous
based materials corrosion and for his leadership and management
of corrosion research laboratories.

     =FE Howard W. Pickering, alumnus, of 1621 Glenwood Circle,
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (16803).  He is a professor in the Department
of Metals, Science and Engineering at Pennsylvania State
University in University Park, Pa.  Pickering was honored for his
research in the use of modern electrochemical and analytical
techniques to study corrosion mechanisms and corrosion
prevention.

     =FE Venice K. Gouda, visiting scholar at Ohio State, is the
Egyptian Minister of State for Scientific Research for the Arab
Republic of Egypt.  Gouda was recognized for advances in the
fields of corrosion science, engineering and research,
particularly inhibition, monitoring and corrosion of steel in
concrete.

     =FE Rizhang, Zhu, visiting scholar, is director of UNDP
Beijing Corrosion and Protection Center and a professor in the
Department of Surface Science and Corrosion Engineering at the
University of Science and Technology in Beijing, China.  Zhu was
recognized for research in high temperature corrosion, stress
corrosion cracking and nuclear alloys, for authorship of several
books, and for founding the Chinese Society for Corrosion
Protection.
