Statement by President Karen A. Holbrook on Ohio Senate initiatives on higher education funding

“I commend the Ohio Senate for clearly signaling in its proposed biennial budget plan the importance of higher education to the state's economic and social prosperity. Under the leadership of President Bill Harris, the Senate is poised to advance the positive steps begun by Governor Strickland and carried forward by the House.

“Ohio's public universities need to maintain their excellence while remaining affordable for Ohio students and their families. The Governor and General Assembly are showing remarkable unanimity of purpose in furthering those two goals.

“I am greatly encouraged by the state's fresh approach to funding public higher education. It promises to deliver the highly trained work force Ohio will need to ensure its future.”
