“Ohio State University officials are preparing contingency plans in the unlikely event the Olentangy River in the campus area overflows its banks due to the controlled release of water from the Delaware County dam. We are working closely with local Emergency Management Agency officials as they monitor rainfall and weather conditions over the next several hours to determine the University’s course of action.

“Those working in buildings in closest proximity to the river are being encouraged to take steps to protect equipment and data in the unlikely event the river does overflow. Student Affairs officials also are working to determine the appropriate course of action should students in University housing be affected.

“At this point, classes will continue to be held on Friday. Due to the holiday, most University offices will be closed Monday, with the exception of units such as the Department of Public Safety and the OSU Medical Center, among others.

“Although nothing is imminent at this time, we want to be prepared if conditions change. We are closely monitoring the river and the weather, and will keep the University community informed on a timely basis as to what steps to take, if needed.”
