STATEMENT ON INVESTIGATION OF DELTA CHI

COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University’s Office of Student Affairs is investigating allegations of violations of the Code of Student Conduct by the campus chapter of Delta Chi Fraternity. The allegations stem from incidents reported to university officials on April 28. Information was also provided to the Columbus Division of Police.

The university placed the fraternity on interim suspension on May 1. The incidents for which the fraternity was suspended allegedly took place during Winter Quarter 2003 in several off-campus locations.

“The types of incidents reported, if true, have no place in any organization at Ohio State,” said Bill Hall, vice president for student affairs. “We have worked very hard with the greek community to strengthen the chapters and help them focus on positive values, and we will continue to do so. We will not tolerate hazing and similar activities in fraternities or any other student organization.”

The university is following its judicial process. The chapter as an organization and some individual members could be sanctioned if Code of Conduct violations are found to have occurred.

Details of the allegations or the investigation will not be disclosed while the judicial process continues.
