Statewide Bicentennial lectures series kicks off at Statehouse

COLUMBUS - From European settlement to globalization, the Ohio Bicentennial Distinguished Lecture series, titled “Ohio and the World,” will kick off at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (3/20) in The Atrium of The Statehouse. In the first lecture of the series, R.W. Apple Jr., associate editor of The New York Times, will discuss “Views and Themes from Ohio’s Past.”

Apple has served in a variety of positions at The New York Times including Washington bureau chief and national political correspondent. During his career Apple has covered historical events such as the Vietnam War, Iranian Revolution, the Gulf War, nine presidential elections and 19 national conventions. In addition, Apple published Apple’s Europe and is a frequent visitor on programs including NBC’s “Meet the Press” and PBS’s “Charlie Rose” show.

The “Ohio and the World” Lecture Series features scholars and experts who can discuss different themes related to Ohio’s continuing development. In addition to Columbus, the lectures will take place in all regions of Ohio, including Newark, Cincinnati, Toledo, Dayton, Cleveland and Athens.
