Expert can discuss similarities, differences of Bush father, son -- An Ohio State expert on the presidency can discuss the differences and similarities between President George W. Bush and his father, George H. W. Bush. John Kessel, political science professor emeritus, said calling President George W. Bush a “carbon copy” or “fundamentally different” from his father are both inaccurate statements. They are similar in that both followed career paths set by their fathers, were supported by family money, and were concerned with energy and national security. But George H. W. Bush was much more skilled at policy development while George W. Bush is a much better politician. Mothers in the workplace held to stricter standards, study suggests -- Despite the gains women have made in the workplace, new research suggests that young adults hold mothers to stricter employment standards than they do childless women. Fathers, on the other hand were held to more lenient standards than both women and childless men, said Kathleen Fuegen, co-author of the study and assistant professor of psychology at Ohio State’s Lima campus. Buckeye Searchlight student film now in theaters – through Jan. 20. -- The independent Ohio State student-made feature film “Detachment” will be playing at Studio 35 Cinema at 11 p. m. nightly through Thursday (1/20). Shot on the Columbus campus last summer, “Detachment” is a psychological thriller that tells the story of Sarah, a mental patient using dreams and dream group therapy to uncover her mysterious past. At first it seems she is getting better, but as her dreams continue, both Sarah and her doctor grow anxious about the conclusion toward which her dreams are hurtling. Marching Band to perform in fourth Presidential Inaugural Parade – Jan. 20. -- The Ohio State University Marching Band will represent the state of Ohio in the 2005 Presidential Inaugural Parade for President George W. Bush in Washington, DC. The band will perform “Beautiful Ohio” as it passes the reviewing stand at approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday (1/20). In addition, the band will play “Across the Field,” “I Wanna Go Back to Ohio State” and “The Buckeye Battle Cry.” The trip marks the band’s fourth Presidential Inaugural Parade appearance. The group also was selected to march in the 2001 parade that celebrated President Bush’s first inauguration.
