Ohio State announces a new interdisciplinary major in Film Studies – One of the fastest growing courses of study at American colleges and universities, Film Studies incorporates
other fields such as art, history, languages, popular culture, and communications. Along with faculty from nine departments in the Arts and Sciences, the film curators of the Wexner Center for the Arts will help oversee the new major. This program of study is unique in the flexibility of its “Focus Area” requirement, which allows students to explore an interdisciplinary specialization against the backdrop of broad training in the critical study of one of the most important art forms of the last century. “The Film Studies Program will encourage students to engage with the entire culture of cinema and to think historically, theoretically, and critically about film as a form of representation and an institution,” said John Davidson, director of Film Studies.
