Public garden experts follow the path to public gardens in Central Ohio – June 19-22. Nearly 600 visitors from the nation’s public gardens will be in town this week for the American Public Gardens Association national convention which is being hosted by Chadwick Arboretum, Dawes Arboretum, and Franklin Park Conservatory. As part of the conference, Ohio State’s Chadwick Arboretum will host a day-long workshop on the state of university gardening from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday (6/19). In addition, Chadwick will host a garden reception from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Learning Gardens in front of Howlett Hall, 2001 Fyffe Court. Horticulturist Adrian Bloom will be on site to talk about the garden that he designed and installed there in 2005. Columbus hosts event to explain benefits to veterans – June 22. The nonprofit Disable American Veterans (DAV) organization offers assistance to veterans who want to know more about benefits and services they have earned. The DAV Mobile Service Office will be in Columbus on Friday (6/22) to personally provide counseling and claim filing assistance. The DAV office will be at the Doubletree Hoten and Convention Center, 175 Hutchinson Ave., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in conjunction with the Ohio DAV spring convention. Ohio State University Trustees to meet June 21-22. The Ohio State University Board of Trustees and its committees will meet Thursday and Friday (6/21-22) at Longaberger Alumni House, 2200 Olentangy River Rd. The schedule includes meetings on Thursday (6/21) of the Medical Affairs and Advancement committees from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; the Audit and Compliance and Governance committees from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m.; and meetings of the Finance and Academic Affairs and Student Life committees from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Eagle Scout project to beautify Ohio State’s Veteran’s House – June 24. Local Eagle Scout Brent Reichert and a team of 8 to 10 fellow Scouts will be landscaping the outside of Veterans House on from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday (6/24). The house, an Ohio State University Residence Hall run by the Office of Student Life, is home to 10 students who are also United States Military veterans. Veterans House is located at 237 E. 17th Avenue.
Brent, of Grove City, chose to organize this effort as part of Scouting’s merit badge program for service projects. The work will include weeding, planting perennials and boxwoods, mulching, and building a retaining wall.
Rep. Cheryl Grossman (R-Grove City) played an instrumental role in helping facilitate the project, secured the assistance of the boy scouts, donations from Home Depot, Wal-Mart and Buckeye Landscaping. CONTACT: Dave Isaacs, (614) 292-8424.
