DIPLOMAT SPEAKS AT AFRICAN STUDIES CONFERENCE--Nov. 14.  Susan
Rice, U.S. assistant secretary of state for African affairs, will
discuss U.S. African Policy: A Look Ahead from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m.
today (11/14) in the Fairfield Room of the Hyatt Regency Hotel,
350 N. High St.  Her speech is part of a conference hosted by
Ohio State titled African Studies Association and Africa: The
First Forty Years. About 1,500 scholars are expected at the event
to discuss politics, economics, culture, the arts and sociology
of Africa. Rice formerly worked with the National Security
Council as director of international organizations and
peacekeeping, and as special assistant to the president and
senior director for African affairs.
  On Saturday (11/15),David Rubadiri, permanent representative of
Malawi to the United Nations will speak on Yet Another  Song:
Implications of Literature and Art on African Societies and 
Politics at 7 p.m. in the Union Ballroom.  A novelist and poet,
Rubadiri is also a lecturer at Makerere College in Uganda and at
the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

STUDENT DANCE TEAM HEADS TO CHINA--Nov. 17.  Twelve of the 17-
member Buckeye Dance Force will travel to China on Monday for a
16-day,  five-city trip that includes dance clinics, tours and
