ICY LUNCH TOPIC--Jan 29.  The Byrd Polar Research Center offers a 
series of Brown Bag lunches with researchers on Thursdays 
throughout the quarter.  Scientist Anne Grunow will discuss Aspects 
of Gondwana Assembly and Breakup: An Antarctic Perspective at noon,

WELLNESS SEMINAR TEACHES MASSAGE--Jan. 29.  A good massage not only 
feels nice--it can lower your anxiety level and increase feelings 
of well-being.  Therapeutic Benefits of Massage is part of a series 
of educational  programs offered by the OSU Wellness Program during 
winter quarter.  Sue McNamara, R.N., will review massage techniques 
from 12-1 p.m. in 220 Larkins Hall, 337 W. 17th Ave.

CARTOON RESEARCH LIBRARY ACQUIRES NEW COMICS COLLECTIONS.  Thanks 
to two new acquisitions, The Ohio State University Cartoon Research 
Library now has both the largest collection of original cartoon art 
and the largest collection of historic comic strip tear sheets and 
clipping files in the nation.  The archives of the Newspaper 
Features Council (NFC), totaling more than 70 boxes of comics, 
recently arrived at the Cartoon Research Library, 27 W. 17th Ave. 
Mall.  The NFC collection documents the evolution of newspaper 
features and comics for the past 40 years.  In addition, many of 
the collections previously housed in the San Francisco Academy of 
Comic Art (SFACA), totaling about 150,000 pounds of boxes, recently 
arrived at the library in six moving vans.  The SFACA was founded 
as a research center and library devoted to the preservation and 
study of the American comic strip. The archives are being processed 
and will be available for research as soon as possible.

NEW COLLEGE PLANNING GUIDE OFFERS FACTS AND ADVICE FOR TEENS.  
Helping students and parents make educated decisions about their 
educational future is the goal of a new Ohio State publication.  
Developed with input from  both high school and college counselors, 
the College Planning Guide is geared at students entering ninth 
grade who are facing choices about whether to take a general 
education or college preparatory curriculum.  The guide provides 
basic information on who should go to college, how much it costs, 
how to prepare, what classes to take and how to study.  It has been 
distributed to all Ohio high schools and several in surrounding 
states.  Although created at Ohio State, the guide is not a direct 
recruitment tool for the university but rather is a step-by-step 
guide that advises students about what they need to do to succeed 
in school and beyond.  A limited number of copies are available 
from Tracy Turner, University Communications, 688-3682.
