LIVING WITH HIV AND AIDS--Mar. 27.  Managing the financial, emotional 
and physical aspects of HIV and AIDS is the topic of a seminar 
sponsored by The Ohio State University Medical Center's AIDS Clinical 
Trials Unit at 7 p.m. in the Rhodes Hall Auditorium of University 
Hospitals, 450 W. 10th Ave.  Seminar participants will also discuss 
new treatment protocols for HIV and AIDS.   The AIDS Clinical Trial 
Unit is one of several national centers developed to test 
experimental treatments for HIV infection and related illnesses.

CONFERENCE OFFERS ADVICE ON DEALING WITH DEFENSE DEPARTMENT CUTS--
Mar. 29  As funding for defense-related projects continues to shrink, 
communities dependent on military installations and contractors are 
focusing on how to maintain their economies in the midst of 
downsizing and closures.  The Defense Reinvestment Workshop features 
national experts, lawmakers and analysts discussing retraining 
workers for jobs outside of defense, and transfer of technology to 
applications and products in the private sector.  The workshop will 
be held 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.  Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Rd.

BRINGING UP BIG BIRDS--Mar. 30.  Here is your chance to learn 
everything about raising ratites, ostriches and emus..  Ratites are 
flightless birds with no breastbones and include ostriches, emus and 
rheas.  Ratite experts will answer your questions at the first Ohio 
Ratite Health and Management Conference at the Ohio Agricultural 
Research and Development Center (OARDC).  Ostrich production has 
grown significantly in Ohio in the past 3-5 years.  Ratite 
specialists will speak on the care and marketing of the big birds, 
and how to get into the business.
