BIG TEN GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS--Mar. 30-31. Many of the nation's 
top gymnasts find that the road to the summer Olympics goes through 
Columbus and the Big Ten men's and women's gymnastics championships 
at St. John Arena.  On Saturday the men's team championship begins at 
1 p.m. and the women's team championship at 7 p.m.  Men's individual 
event finals begin at 1 p.m. Sunday.  Seven men's and seven women's 
teams are competing for the team title.  After back-to-back team 
titles in 1993 and '94, the Ohio State men finished third last year.  
The Buckeyes, who are coached by U.S. Olympic Coach Peter Kormann, 
currently are ranked first nationally.  It is the first time since 
1988 that the championships have been held in Columbus.

JUSTICE-ATHLETE ADDRESSES BLACK LAW STUDENTS--Mar. 30. Alan Page, a 
Minnesota Supreme Court justice and retired professional football 
player, is the keynote speaker at the Black Law Students 
Association's 17th annual award and recognition dinner.  The program, 
sponsored by the Black Law Students Association chapters at Ohio 
State University College of Law and Capital University Law School, 
begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on the Lane, 328 W. Lane Ave.

ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS PRESENT DESIGNS FOR THEIR NEW SCHOOL--Apr. 1.  
Students in the Knowlton School of Architecture are having some 
tangible input into the design for the school's new building.  
Architecture and Landscape Architecture students have submitted their 
ideas for the building that will eventually replace aging Brown Hall 
and Ives Hall.  Students will present their ideas to faculty and 
school administrators at 1:30 p.m., Ives Hall lobby, 2073 Neil 
Ave.(corner of Woodruff and Neil).

SCHOTTENSTEIN CENTER GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY--Apr. 2.  The ceremonial 
start of construction on Ohio State's new Schotetnstein Center begins 
at 3 p.m. at the grass field located at the corner of Lane Ave. and 
Olentangy River Rd.  The $84 million center is scheduled for 
completion by the 1998-99 school year.  The multi-purpose building 
will hold 21,000 for concerts, 19.500 for basketball and 17,000 for 
hockey.  The University has already raised more than $26 million 
through seat liscensing and naming opportunities for the new 
building.  Media should use the Fyffe Rd. entrance on the west side 
of the field (off Lane Ave.) and park in designated media parking 
adjacent to Fyffe Rd.  A mult box will be provided.

USING LASERS TO CORRECT VISION--Apr. 2.  Researchers at Ohio State 
have been instrumental in developing both lasers and treatment 
protocols for a variety of vision disorders.  Ophthalmologists will 
discuss the use of lasers and recent advances in correcting vision 
problems at a seminar at 6:30 p.m. in the fifth floor conference room 
of University Hospitals Clinic, 456 W. 10th Ave.  Educational 
material will also be available for people considering laser or 
radial keratotomy procedures for the treatment of nearsightedness.  
OSU Medical Center ophthalmologists are accepting patients for a 
study using laser to correct nearsightedness.

IS STRESS AFFECTING YOUR HEALTH?   Ohio State University scientists 
are seeking volunteers to participate in a study of how various 
stresses affect health.  Researchers will measure cholesterol, heart 
rate, blood pressure and other signs in men and premenopausal women 
age 40-45 and men and women age 55-60.  Volunteers must be healthy 
non-smokers who do not use medication to affect health or 
cholesterol levels.  Women must not be taking estrogen or other 
hormones.

OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES--Apr. 2-3.  The Board meets 
at the Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Rd., with committee 
meetings at 9:15 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. and the full board meeting at 11 
a.m. in the Alumni Lounge.  The Student Affairs Committee will meet 
Tuesday, Apr. 2, 12:30-2 p.m. in 202 Bricker Hall, 190 N. Oval Mall.  
Among the agenda items: the 1997 budget, the formation of 
corporations for Reading Recovery, the naming of internal spaces in 
campus facilities, and an update on university restructuring.

VISITOR CENTER OPEN HOUSE--Apr. 3.  Prospective students and other 
visitors to Ohio State now have a new, centrally located place to for 
'one-stop' shopping for information about the university.  The Office 
of Admissions and Financial Aid is hosting an open house and tour of 
the new student visitor center located in Enarson Hall, 154 W. 12th 
Ave., from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.  Reporters are invited to join other 
guests in touring the center, meeting the staff, and joining in a 
campus tour.   Formerly housed in Lincoln Tower, the center recently 
moved to the main part of campus to centralize and enhance campus 
visits by prospective students and their families and to direct 
visitors to an academic, central campus location..
