CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAM HONORED--April 16.  An Ohio State 
University Police program that took campus crime prevention and 
safety messages to more than 12,000 Ohio high school students 
last year has been named Outstanding Ohio Crime Prevention 
Project by the Ohio Crime Prevention Association (OCPA).   
Officers will receive the OCPA award at a lunch ceremony  from 
noon-2 p.m. at the Windham Hotel (formerly Stouffers in Dublin), 
1600 Metro Place North.  OSU officers traveled to 91 high schools 
across the state in 1996 to spread campus safety messages.  The 
program, started here in 1991, has become so popular that other 
university police departments are asking to help expand it. 
      Also at the lunch, the OCPA is expected to announce a new 
scholarship and a new annual service award named for slain OSU 
Police Officer Michael Blankenship, who was very active in crime 
prevention and the OCPA.

AVOIDING ERRORS IN GIVING MEDICATION--April 14-15.  Despite 
advances in almost every field of medicine, errors continue to 
enter the equation, causing problems for health care workers and 
patients.  The Medication Use Process: Error Prevention and 
Reducing Adverse Drug Events is the topic of the annual Ohio 
Pharmaceutical Seminar, sponsored by The Ohio State University 
College of Pharmacy.  Many nationally recognized speakers will 
speak on topics that include: defining, reducing and eliminating 
medication errors, and the roles pharmacists can play in reducing 
medication errors and finding ways to correct problems in the 
medication use system.

HISPANIC AWARENESS WEEK-- April 11-18.  A week-long celebration 
of  Hispanic culture includes conferences, workshops, cultural 
and informational events and a series of Hispanic luncheons.  
Topics include legislative challenges to immigration, language 
and citizenship; literary readings; rethinking ethnicity, and 
gender and culture.  The fifth annual  Ohio Hispanic Conference 
will be held on Monday (4/14) and focus on Hispanic businesses, 
with a variety of workshops and roundtable discussions.  A fiesta 
will be held Sunday in Whetstone Park of Roses from 2-5 p.m.

FORENSIC EXPERT DR. HENRY LEE TO SPEAK AT OHIO STATE MARION--
April 17-18.  The scientist who gained national attention for his 
defense testimony at the O.J. Simpson trial, his investigative 
work in Bosnia and this year for his work on the JonBenet Ramsey 
murder investigation will present Death Investigations, Crime 
Scene Preservation and Expert Testimony,  9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the
