PROFESSOR RETURNS TO BOSNIA--May 24-July 2. Okey Onyejekwe (O-kee 
On-yeh-JEK-way), director of Ohio State's Center for African 
Studies, returns to Bosnia on May 24 to serve as a supervisor of a 
massive voter registration effort ahead of a September 1998 
election.  He is part of an international team that supervised two 
1997 elections called for by the Dayton Peace Accord of 1995.  Many 
voters disputed the election results, saying potential voters could 
not register to cast ballots because they were refugees or had 
moved as a result of the political upheaval.

ASIAN FINANCIAL CRISIS IS TOPIC OF SEMINAR--May 27. Anthony Lake, 
former national security adviser to President Clinton, is one of 
the featured speakers at The Asian 'Financial Crisis': Outlook '98, 
9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Hyatt on Capitol Square.  Hosted by the Max M. 
Fisher College of Business, the seminar brings together top 
authorities on Asia's current economic and political situation and 
what it means for U.S. businesses.  Topics include: how the Asian 
crisis affects U.S. exports and its trade balance, what the 
slowdown means for U.S. economic growth, and the actions countries 
within Asia are taking to recover. Lake gives the keynote luncheon 
address at 12:30 p.m.

GEOLOGIST DELIVERS TWO LECTURES--May 28. The Department of 
Geological Sciences has selected Steven Stanley, a professor of 
earth and planetary sciences at Johns Hopkins University, for the 
Bownocker Medal and the 56th annual J.A. Bownocker lecture series.  
Stanley will present Secular Oscillations in the Mineralogy of 
Dominant Carbonate-Secreting Organisms Driven by Tectonically 
Forced Shifts in Seawater Chemistry at 4 p.m., and The Modern Ice 
Age: Its Cause, Role in Early Human Evolution, and Possible Human-
Induced Termination at 8 p.m.  Both lectures take place in 100 
Mendenhall Laboratory, 125 S. Oval Mall.

TWILIGHT OUTDOOR CONCERTS IN AMPHITHEATER--May 28. The School of 
Music presents free outdoor concerts at one of the campus' most 
picturesque settings: Browning Amphitheater next to Mirror Lake.  
In the final concert of the season, the University Jazz Ensemble, 
directed by Ted McDaniel, will perform on May 28 at 7:30 p.m.
