EXPERIMENTAL CAR COMPETES IN FUTURECAR CHALLENGE--June 17-24. Ohio
State is one of 12 finalists competing in the FutureCar Challenge in
Dearborn, Michigan. The U.S Department of Energy sponsors the
FutureCar Challenge as a way to challenge students to devise ways to
double or triple fuel economy. The Buckeye entry features the only
diesel-powered car in the field--a VW engine in a Chevy Lumina.
The car and competition is part of the curriculum for students
learning mechanical engineering at the Center for Automotive
Research. Another experimental vehicle--the battery-powered
Smokin' Buckeye, competes later this month.
