University Communication offers this list of  potential news stories 
on the Columbus campus.  We'll update this listing every other week 
during the summertime.

DANCE DOCUMENTATION WORKSHOPS--JULY 25-29.  The Department of Dance 
is hosting a four-day Multimedia Workshop in Dance Documentation and 
Preservation.  Members of the OSU Multimedia Dance Prototype team, 
who have developed interactive compact discs documenting the work of 
two American dancer/choreographers, will lead participants from 
around the country in creating their own CDs.
        Ohio State's multimedia dance preservation project was 
funded in part through a grant from the the National Initiative to 
Preserve American Dance (NIPAD), which is a collaborative program of 
the Pew Charitable Trusts and the John F. Kennedy Center for the 
Performing Arts.
        The compact discs offer a high-technology approach to 
documenting contemporary dance for educational and research 
purposes. They present visual documentation of performances 
including photographs, film, and video; dance scores; notes and oral 
comments by the artists; production information; and bibliographic 
references such as book chapters and newspaper reviews. Additional 
materials can include information on the cultural and artistic 
context for each artist's work as well as various ways of 
describing, interpreting, and analyzing the work.

SUMMER INSTITUTES OFFER INNOVATIVE ARTS AND SCIENCE COURSES FOR HIGH 
SCHOOL STUDENTS--July 8-26.  This month, three different programs 
are offered for 10th and 11th graders from around Ohio interested in 
art, engineering or supercomputing.  The Ohio State University 
Summer Institute for the Gifted and Talented in the Arts, July 8-19, 
offers an intense exploration of art, dance, music, theatre and 
creative writing for some 70 high school students.  The Summer 
Institute in Engineering, July 8-19,  is a hands-on laboratory 
concentrated on engineering design and use of computers.  Students 
will attend programs in scientific visualization at the Ohio 
Supercomputer Center July 15-26.
