CREATING SAFE ENVIRONMENTS FOR KIDS IN A STRESSFUL WORLD--Aug. 7.   
Learning how to identify anxiety problems in children will be one 
of several topics discussed today (8/7) beginning at 10 a.m. at 
the Ohio State University Medical Center Community Development's  
Creating a Safe, Secure and Friendly Environment for Kids in a 
Stressful World Conference at the Summit United Methodist Church, 
82 E. 16th Ave.  Topics to be discussed include: strategies for 
helping children with difficult behaviors; stress 101; 
transforming children's fears and stress into resiliency; body 
awareness training; and fostering resilience in the classroom.  
The event is free and lunch will be provided.

EXHIBIT FEATURES EVERYONE'S FAVORITE COLOR--through Aug. 15.  The  
celebration coats of prominent fiber artist Robert Hillestad are 
on exhibit at the Geraldine Schottenstein Wing of Campbell Hall. 
The free exhibition of "Choreography in Fiber: The Celebrations 
of Robert Hillestad" features vibrant colors and rich textures. 
Hillestad,  an alumnus of the College of Human Ecology, is a 
frequent exhibitor in national and international juried and 
invitational shows.  The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
Wednesday through Saturday.

CLARK KELLOGG HOSTS FIRST 3-ON-3 BASKETBALL TOURNEY--Aug. 8-9.  
The first Clark Kellogg 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held 
in the St. John Arena parking lot (northeast side by Lane Avenue)   
Saturday and Sunday (8/8-8/9) beginning at 8:30 a.m.  The event  
will feature 3-on-3 competition, a slam dunk contest, a three-
point shootout and a youth clinic.  Divisions of play include 
Junior (16 and under), Open (17 and over) and Top (serious 
players).  The tournament will benefit the nonprofit organization 
Friends of Hoop and is scheduled to become an annual event.

PLANT PATHOLOGISTS HOLD TOMATO CLINIC--Aug. 13  Ohio State  
University horticulturists and plant pathologists will hold 
pumpkin, vegetable, flower and forage evaluations Thursday (8/13) 
from 4  to 8 p.m. during Horticulture and Crop Science Field Day 
at the Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory.  
Other projects include processing tomato disease and insect 
management, controlling the plant disease powdery mildew and 
evaluating the use of mulch to prevent ground rot.  People  
who have trees dying, diseased tomatoes or other plant problems 
can bring samples to be diagnosed for free by members of Ohio 
State's Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic. The laboratory's dairy 
farm will be available to tour, and a food stand will be open for 
people who would like to purchase dinner at the site. The 
Waterman lab is located on the north side of Lane Avenue, between 
Kenny and North Star roads, just west of Ohio State's main 
campus.

THOUSANDS OF FISHER COLLEGE SURPLUS ITEMS FOR SALE--Aug. 13-15.   
Approximately 4,000 desks, chairs, bookcases and other office 
furniture items remaining from the Fisher College of Business's 
move out of Hagerty Hall will be sold to the university community 
and the public in one of the largest surplus sales ever held at 
Ohio State.  All sales take place in Hagerty Hall, 1775 College 
Road. Public parking is recommended in the Ohio Union Garage 
(across College Road from Hagerty Hall).  A "100W" sale to 
university offices for departmental use only will be held from 9 
a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday (8/13). Sales to faculty, staff, students 
and the public for personal use will follow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
Friday (8/14) and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (8/15).  The sale 
will be "check-and-carry:"  Checks are the required method  
of payment, and buyers must arrange for removal of items at the 
time of purchase.  All items will be priced individually, and 
sales tax will apply.  Commercial movers will remove items from 
buildings, and may be contracted to load items to be hauled away.  
University movers will assist, on a fee basis, with transfers of 
items purchased for departmental use.
