HOMECOMING WEEK CELEBRATED WITH VARIETY OF EVENTS=97OCT. 11-12. =20
Ohio State is celebrating Homecoming this week with the theme=20
Mardi Gras Buckeye Style.
Friday (Oct. 11) -- The traditional homecoming parade, featuring=20
floats, the Anheuser Busch Clydesdale horses, Ohio State Marching=20
Band and the Homecoming Court will begin at 6 p.m. at the French=20
Field House.  Grand marshals are Ohio State alumni Olympic gold=20
medalist Butch Reynolds and CBS News correspondent Erin Moriarty,=20
who will lead the parade down High Street and around the Ohio=20
Union to the Oval, where there will be a pep rally with=20
announcement of the homecoming king and queen.
Saturday (Oct. 12) -- During halftime of the football game with=20
the University of Wisconsin, the homecoming king and queen will=20
be crowned.  A masquerade ball will be held in the Ohio Union =20
from 10 p.m. to  2 a.m.=20
Saturday (Oct. 12) -- In honor of the late Clancy Isaac, founder=20
of the Block O cheering section, some 1,100 Block O members will=20
perform a card salute during the break between the first and=20
second quarters of the homecoming game. Isaac founded Block O in=20
1938, when he served as head cheerleader during his senior year=20
at Ohio State.  Isaac, who had planned to attend the homecoming=20
game, died Oct. 4.

MAX KADE GERMAN HOUSE WILL BE DEDICATED=97Oct. 11.  The Department=20
of Germanic Languages and Literatures will dedicate the Max Kade=20
German House, 141 W. 11th Ave., at 5 p.m.  The residential and=20
educational house will be home to nine students and a graduate=20
resident adviser.

ARTS MANAGEMENT COLLECTION DONATED , WRITER VISITS COLUMBUS--Oct.=20
11.  Alvin Reiss, author  on the business of the arts, has=20
donated his collection of materials on the arts and arts=20
management to the University's Fine Arts Library.  The collection=20
includes thousands of books, periodicals, reports, studies,=20
clippings, tapes, and papers that provide a chronological view of=20
the development of the arts industry from the 1960s to the=20
present. Reiss will speak at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Borders Books &=20
Music, 4545 Kenny Road, about his newest book, Don't Just=20
Applaud, Send Money! The Most Successful Strategies for Funding=20
and Marketing the Arts.

BLACK CULTURAL CENTER MARKS ANNIVERSARY WITH OPEN HOUSE=97Oct. 11. =20
The Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center, 153 W. 12th Ave.,=20
will mark its seventh anniversary with an open house from noon-8=20
p.m.  Music will be provided by local reggae musicians, and=20
vendors will display clothing, jewelry, books and fragrances. An=20
art exhibit, Sisters in the Struggle, also will be on display.

DEPARTMENT OF ART FACULTY EXHIBITING WORKS=97Oct. 14-25.  The work=20
of faculty members in the Department of Art will be showcased in=20
New Works in Hopkins Hall Gallery, 128 N. Oval Mall.=20
Concurrently, in the Hopkins Hall Corridor, Favorites contains=20
images of faculty members'  favorite pieces of art, along with=20
statements concerning why each piece is significant to the one=20
who selected it. An opening reception for both displays will take=20
place from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 14 in the gallery.

AUTHOR AND SATIRIST MICHAEL MOORE TO SPEAK AT OHIO UNION--OCT.=20
15.  Satirist Michael Moore, author of Downsize This, Random=20
Threats from an Unarmed American, will speak at 7 p.m. in the=20
Ohio Union East Ballroom, 1739 N. High St.  Moore,  creator of=20
the Emmy-winning television series TV Nation and the film Roger=20
and Me, will discuss voter apathy and other issues covered in his=20
book.  The event is free and open to the public.  Doors open at 6=20
p.m.  Moore will  sign books after the talk. =20

PANEL TO DISCUSS LIVING WITH HIV, AIDS=97Oct. 16.  The Medical=20
Center's AIDS Clinical Trials Unit is sponsoring an educational=20
forum at 7 p.m. on the latest HIV/AIDS treatments, including=20
antiviral and vaccine therapies, in the Rhodes Hall Auditorium,=20
450 W. 10th Ave.  A reception, featuring representatives from=20
local AIDS service organizations, will take place one hour before=20
the forum in the Rhodes Hall lobby.  Both events are free.=20

VISITING ARTIST AND CRITIC PRESENTS  LECTURE--Oct. 16  The second=20
of four visiting artists/critics hosted by the Department of Art=20
this quarter, Jeremy Gilbert-Rolfe, a painter and writer, will=20
give a public presentation at 4:30 p.m. in the Wexner Center=20

VOLUNTEERS TAKE TO THE STREETS FOR HIGH ON PRIDE CLEANUP=97Oct.=20
19.  Members of the university community will take to the streets=20
again for another High on Pride volunteer clean-up of trash in=20
the public areas of the University district. Student, faculty,=20
staff and community volunteers will meet at the Wexner Center,=20
1891 N. High St., for shifts that run from 9 a.m.-noon.

BUTTONS ON DISPLAY IN SILLS HALL; AUTHOR WILL DISCISS=20
COLLECTION=97Oct. 19-Dec. 7.  Mrs. Rudolph's Buttons: An Exhibit=20
will feature unique button books, magazine and papers from the=20
University Libraries and distinctive buttons and other items from=20
the College of Human Ecology's Historic Costume and Textile=20
Collection. The display features selected buttons from the=20
collection of Anne Rudolph. Items will be on display through Dec.=20
7 in Sills Exhibit Hall in Main Library, 1858 Neil Ave. Author=20
and button collector Peggy Ann Osborne will lecture at 2 p.m.=20
Oct. 19 in 122 Main Library.

SYMPOSIA WILL EXAMINE ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION=97Oct. 21.  Two=20
symposia to examine issues surrounding alternative education will=20
take place at noon and 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Frank W. Hale Jr.=20
Black Cultural Center, 153 W. 12th Ave. Speakers will discuss=20
Afrocentric schools, homeschooling and African methods of=20
teaching.
